Ski professionals seem to fit into two very different categories, the ones that spent years training to become ski teachers and the sponsored pro freeskiers that we see on the covers of ski magazines. Although these two distinct routes rarely seem to follow the same path. Long time magazine cover skier and big mountain specialist Chris Fecher has bridged that gap, from Chamonix ski bum to cover star and freeride competitor to a fully qualified ski teacher and holder of the coveted BASI L4 ISTD, French Equivalence. Chris’s passion is backcountry skiing and ski touring and when not out teaching and guiding he’s out skiing the famous Chamonix off-piste. Based in Wanaka NZ during the Southern Hemisphere winter season where Chris also works as a senior ski Patroller & part time snow safety officer and NZMGA assistant ski guide holding a Pre Hospital Emergency Care Certificate, NZ Diploma in Avalanche studies and an Approved Handler cert for explosives.

Olly teaches all levels and specialises in All Mountain Skiing.
He has been a fully qualified BASI ISTD ski instructor for over 15 years and has skied and worked on and off piste extensively throughout the French Alps and beyond. Olly for many years has dedicated his time to kitesurf waveriding in the summer months. This discipline relates directly to technical off-piste and freeride skiing. Where both sports require a high level of perceptual skill and technique to read and adapt to an open wild changing environment. Olly was drawn to Chamonix by the fantastic skiing and by the fact it offers some of the finest variable terrain for teaching skiing in the Alps. With quick and easy access from the lifts and pistes to suit all levels of ability. Making it a wonderful training ground. To practice the Art of All Mountain Skiing. Ollys creativity and experience shines through in his fun sessions at all levels of ability.

SARAH FECHER – Team STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER
Our very own staff pro photographer and the voice on the end of the Tinderbox ski school office phone. Most of the images on the Tinderbox site we’re taken by Sarah. A keen skier and climber from a little Island in the South Pacific called New Zealand.
The Tinderbox Ski School team of ski teachers and guides have all undergone full training, assessment and qualification to the top level. To become fully trained ski teachers takes many years of study and includes a wide range of subjects, from technical skiing and teaching to avalanche safety skills and race coaching. Part of the qualification to become fully qualified and able to work in Chamonix is the ‘Euro test’ a tough timed GS race, set against top ex racers. The EMS ‘European Mountain Security’ is another part of the full international qualification enabling us to work, guide and teach skiing off-piste skiing and ski touring on non glaciated terrain. Our guides are all fully qualified and highly skilled mountain guides (UIAGM – IFMGA) Accept nothing less!
We know Chamonix
It makes such a diffrence knowing a place, the team have each spent a minimum of ten winters in Chamonix. This of course means we know where the best snow is the best terrain and what specifically is going to work for our clients on any given day. When not out teaching and guiding in Chamonix we’re out skiing for fun and making sure we know whats in the very best conditions. Any holiday wouldn’t be complete without checking out some of the great bars and restraunts, of course we make sure the team sample these on a regular basis too, so you get a good recommendation and we’ll even book you that table if you like. It’s the little things that are hard to book and foresee when planning a trip from the UK, we’re happy to help make your holiday in Chamonix a fantastic expeirence so please just ask.
