Chamonix snow conditions:
Lift opening:
As of today the 20th of December Chamonix has begun to open for the 14/15 winter season. Staggered opening of the remaining lifts will happen as and when we get more snow.
Currently we have Grands Montets open with everything apart from ‘Pendent’ and ‘Herse’ lifts running. The piste conditions are good and there is some nice skiing on and off trail especially from the top cable car. La Tour, Brevent and Flegere will open some lifts this weekend on limited pistes.
We rode the new ‘Plan Joran’ gondola today for the fist time and think it’s the best thing since sliced bread. No more bottle-neck at the bottom of GM will be a welcome sight and make a big improvement to the lift system. With the new lift’s arrival we also wave goodbye to the ‘Tabe’ chair which has helped us access the famous trees at GM for many many years. Laps in the trees will be just that little bit more effort so we’re looking forward to less people and more tracks to be had for us.
Snow conditions:
We skied some nice powder snow from the top of the Grands Montets today, the rest of the mountain has some fresh snow but you just have to be super careful of the rocks as usual for early season skiing on the GM. What we have now at least, will serve as a great base for the next few snow falls.
